Qualifications to be a sentinel

Sentinel Security PLLC employs unarmed security officers, armed civilian security officers, retired law enforcement officers, and active duty law enforcement officers with the goal to provide our clients with the level of security that best fits their individual needs. Therefore we attempt to select employees that best fit our standards of excellence and provide the best service to our clients.

Minimum Applicant Requirements of Sentinel Security and the State of Illinois:

  • Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, have a high school diploma, GED or equivalent. Military service will also be considered.
  • Applicants must successfully complete pre employment screening, interview, background investigation and have prior verifiable work experience.
  • Applicants must have a working telephone number and a reliable means of transportation.
  • Applicants must be mature and demonstrate effective verbal and writing skills.
  • *Unarmed security officers must have a current PERC (Permanent Employee Registration Card) or apply for one after initial interview and complete the mandatory twenty (20) hour training course.
  • *Armed security officers (civilian) must be at least 21 years of age, obtain their PERC, and complete their FCC (Firearms Control Card), and twenty-eight (28) hour training course.
  • *Retired law enforcement officers will have to obtain a PERC card and have an IROCC (Illinois Retired Officers Control Card) or FCC.
  • *Active duty law enforcement officers in good standing will only require the approval from their agency.

*These standards are required by and subject to change by the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
